The Wenonah Advantage
Wenonah is family-owned. In our setting community living is emphasized and individual accomplishments are celebrated. Camp is home to 250 campers, 75 leadership participants, and 100+ staff members. Over 80% of our campers return to Wenonah year after year, allowing each child to build upon the personal growth that they achieved in previous summers. The size of the Wenonah community means that each child can learn new things and experience personal development in a safe and supportive environment.
We offer distinct programs for 5-12 year olds of different lengths of stay, including our popular 3-day WEEnonah program for 5 – 7 year olds and 7-day introductory programs for older campers. All new campers and families are invited to see Camp and meet our staff at our New Camper Open House every June. We also make phone calls made to families of first time campers 48 hours after start of Camp Period so they know how their camper is doing after the first few days of Camp.
Lead by Executive Chef Cody Rector, our food service team provides three hearty and healthy meals each day to campers. Meals are prepared with great care, and are served buffet style. Food at Camp is guaranteed to by yummy and give campers the nourishment they need to play, be active, and have fun all day long.
Chef Cody and the food service team accommodate many dietary needs. Wenonah is a nut aware setting at all times.
We offer 30+ unique instructional and recreational programs including sailing, tennis, kayaking, whitewater kayaking, canoeing, paddlemaking, swim instruction, climbing, low ropes & initiatives, digital photography, paddleboarding, film & theatre, arts, environmental education, acoustic guitar, water volleyball, music and much more! The main Camp area includes 100 acres of spectacular wilderness and sits on two lakes (Clear Lake and Saw Lake). Campers live in clean, well-ventilated cabins, and have easy access to private showers and flush toilets. Our facility includes the Health Centre (a quarter-million dollar facility), where full-time nurses live to look after the health and wellness needs of campers.
Our year-round leadership team includes Founder/Executive Director Jeff Bradshaw, who is two term President of the Canadian Camping Association, a member of the Ontario Camps Association Board of Directors, and a member of the Board of Directors of the International Camping Fellowship since 1997. Jeff has 35+ years of Camp staff experience, and received Canada’s highest camping honour, the Ron Johnstone Award for Lifetime Achievement. Senior Directors Jennifer “JJ” Jupp and Mike “Stewy” Stewart are two of Canada’s most well-regarded and highly respected camping leaders. Stewy has the overall responsibility for the administration and operations at Wenonah while JJ has the overall responsibility for the Summer Camp and Outdoor Education Centre (Spring and Fall) experiences.
Upwards of 95% of staff each year are long-time members of the Wenonah community (as veteran staff and former campers). Staff members are outdoor education professionals, teachers, university and college graduates/students or senior high school students. Three Registered Nurses (who are often Camp parents!) are onsite at all times.
Wenonah is a destination for many campers and staff from around the world. Each year, our community is enriched by the dozens of international campers and staff who travel to Camp by plane, train, and automobile! Over 25 countries are represented at Camp each year.
Our two-year leadership development programs (POLARIS & WCIT) are one month experiences focusing on certification in program areas, leadership skill development and group and community facilitation skills. Leadership programs are available to 16 & 17 year olds.
