In light of the outbreak of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), we are writing today to let you know about the approach that Camp Wenonah is taking with the situation. At this time, Canadian public health authorities have assessed the risk associated with the disease to those in Canada as low.

In order to ensure a safe experience for everyone at Camp Wenonah, we are monitoring this issue carefully and will continue to do so. We have consulted with our local public health unit (Simcoe Muskoka) and we are working with the Ontario Camps Association. We will continue to look to them for recommendations and direction.

We are reviewing our well-established health-specific protocols under the guidance of our Director of Health and Wellness (Nancy Vandenbergh, NP) and our Camp Physician (Dr. Phyllis McCord).

Camp Consultant Tom Appleyard is also guiding Camp Wenonah on this issue. Tom is a recognized expert in pandemic readiness. He co-authored Ontario’s pandemic plan and is working in multiple sectors to ensure safe and effective responses to COVID-19.

At this time, there are no changes necessary to any of our procedures as we prepare for the Summer Camp season ahead. Should any of this change, we will communicate this with you as early as possible.

You can find trustworthy local information about COVID-19 online at the Simcoe Muskoka Health Unit’s website or with your local public health unit.
